Printed circuit boards or PCBs have to be manufactured out of a non conductive material that is coated in conductive laminate copper. The copper is used as the main material so that the connecting electronic elements can be drilled or carved into it creating a type of pathway. The non conductive material is what holds all prototype PCBs together. Now that you can see the importance of prototypes you should be able to understand that prototypes actually save money rather than use it up. It may seem wasteful at first but this is why plastic is utilized. It gives a good picture of the final product but is inexpensive and helps to determine where changes need to be made.
